We want to thank the many Officers across the State who worked so hard during the campaign. If it weren’t for all of you we would never be where we are today. Governor Walker spent long hours during and after the campaign discussing the issues facing our Department with Officers as they held signs, attended events, and volunteered in the campaign office. We are extremely appreciative for the time he took to hear from these Officers and we are just as appreciative for the Officers willingness to put themselves out there. Because of those dialogues we were also very happy to hear, read, and see in the news, that Corrections is one of the new Governor’s top priorities.
For 11 years prior to 2007, ACOA staff worked hand-in-hand with DOC Upper Management to solve problems and issues as they came up. Because of that close relationship, we had few grievances and even fewer arbitrations… and no court cases. Certainly we did not agree on everything, but until 2007 we were always able to work it out in a professional manner. With the election now over and with Bill Walker as our new Governor we can finally begin to build that relationship back to what it once was.
Congratulations Alaska Correctional Officers
